The agreement includes knowledge exchange and technology transfer.
“Jordan has advanced agricultural technology, and we want to learn from it. I brought my Agriculture Minister on this visit, and I hope we can take real action on the issues we discussed,” President Prabowo said on Monday (April 14).
During the bilateral meetings at the palace, President Prabowo witnessed the signing of three MoUs and one defense cooperation agreement between Indonesia and Jordan.
One of the MoUs focused on agriculture, signed by Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and Jordan’s Minister of Agriculture Khaled Al Hanefat.
In a separate statement, President Prabowo also highlighted that Jordan produces one of the world’s cheapest fertilizer raw materials—potassium phosphate.
This is vital for Indonesia, as the President aims to achieve national food self-sufficiency as a top priority.
“In Jordan, we’re buying a lot of phosphate and potash for our fertilizers—some of the cheapest in the world,” said the president.
Besides agriculture, Indonesia and Jordan also signed MoUs in the areas of religious affairs and higher education and scientific research.
The MoU on higher education and scientific research was signed by Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs Prof. Nasaruddin Umar and Jordan’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Azmi Mahafza.
The MoU on religious affairs was signed by Minister Nasaruddin Umar and Jordan’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Awqaf, and Holy Sites Mohammad Khalayleh.
Additionally, a defense cooperation agreement was signed by Indonesia’s Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi.
