Foreign Ministry Clarifies Issue of 100 Gaza Residents’ Relocation to Indonesia
- Anadolu Ajansi
Jakarta, VIVA – The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has firmly stated that no agreements or discussions have been made with any party, including Israel, regarding the relocation of Gaza residents to Indonesia.
"The Indonesian government has never discussed with any party or received any information about the plan to relocate Gaza residents to Indonesia, as mentioned by some foreign media," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat in a written statement on Thursday.
Currently, Indonesia is focusing on pushing for the implementation of a second-phase ceasefire, ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and initiating the region's reconstruction as soon as possible, Soemirat stated.
He made this statement in response to foreign media reports claiming that around 100 Gaza residents would travel to Indonesia to work in the construction sector as part of a voluntary migration pilot program.

According to reports from Channel 12, an Israeli Hebrew-language media outlet, the initiative is overseen by COGAT (Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories), the Israeli military body responsible for coordinating civil and humanitarian policies in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The report further stated that if the voluntary migration pilot program proved successful, responsibility for the program would be transferred to Israel's migration affairs, which was established by Israel’s defense chief, Israel Katz.
Additionally, the report claimed that the pilot project aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of voluntary migration and encourage thousands of Gaza residents to take up construction jobs in Indonesia.
Although international law allows them to return to Gaza after working, the broader goal of the program is to facilitate long-term migration in cooperation with Indonesia, according to the report.
