Surabaya Boosts 5G Network with 200 New BTS for Faster Connectivity

Jakarta, VIVA – Telkomsel has expanded its Hyper 5G network in Surabaya, East Java, by adding 50 new BTS, bringing the total to over 90 BTS 5G during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2025 period.
With this expansion, customers can now enjoy stable, high-speed 5G internet at Juanda International Airport, the Central Business District, major shopping centers, residential areas, and even university campuses.
After Eid al-Fitr, Telkomsel will further accelerate its Hyper 5G rollout, aiming to reach over 200 BTS 5G in Surabaya. Over time, the coverage will continue to expand gradually across the city.
Surabaya, the second-largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta, is strategically located in the easternmost province of Java Island.

As of March 2025, 5G handset penetration in Surabaya has surpassed 25%, with average data consumption reaching 22GB per user per month.
Because of the Hyper 5G expansion, download speeds in Surabaya can now reach up to 481 Mbps, while upload speeds hit 87 Mbps—four times faster than the average 4G connection.
With this latest expansion, Telkomsel now operates over 2,250 BTS 5G across 56 regencies and cities in Indonesia.
Telkomsel’s Network Director, Indra Mardiatna, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continuing 5G expansion in Surabaya and other strategic areas such as Makassar, Medan, and Batam.
"We are maximizing our network readiness to welcome Eid al-Fitr. One of our key initiatives is ensuring seamless Hyper 5G coverage across Surabaya. We want to make this moment more meaningful for everyone—households and businesses alike," Mardiatna stated on Sunday (March 23).
Prior to this, Telkomsel had also accelerated its Hyper 5G network rollout in Bali, establishing 236 BTS 5G in Denpasar and Badung.
This expansion aims to support local digital economy growth and enhance tourism connectivity with ultra-fast internet.
