Jakarta, VIVA – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). One of the key areas of collaboration is halal certification.

The Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Anindya Bakrie, expressed hope that this partnership would boost Indonesia’s trade.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that this collaboration with the Halal Agency is comprehensive, and that it will ultimately enhance Indonesia’s trade,” Bakrie said on Friday (March 21).

He pointed out that many countries now require products with halal certification. However, mandatory halal certification for all Indonesian products will only take full effect in 2026.

With this partnership, Indonesia’s halal products are expected to gain a stronger foothold in the global market.

“We’ve learned from many places, including Saudi Arabia, Canada, and several other countries that have already started inquiring about halal certification—even though the full implementation will only take effect in 2026,” he explained.

Hasan further explained that out of 64 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia, only 6 million have obtained halal certification so far.

“The Halal Agency is currently striving to meet the certification targets. So far, we’ve only reached 3 percent of the total businesses that need halal certification,” Hasan stated.
