Jakarta, VIVA – The Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Bakrie, held a meeting with a delegation from the British Group Inter-Parliamentary Union (BGIPU).
This meeting discussed efforts to increase trade and investment cooperation between Indonesia and the UK.
He explained that the meeting with BGIPU was a follow-up to a meeting previously held by President Prabowo Subianto with King Charles III and British Prime Minister (PM) Keir Starmer in London in November 2024.

"I see that the relationship between Indonesia and the UK (regarding trade) is good, around US$3 billion or around IDR 48,9 billion but it can be further improved," Bakrie said on Wednesday (Feb 19).
He acknowledged that the UK has a number of advantages in terms of services, education, and the health sector, which he believes are currently very large.
Moreover, the UK is currently focusing on developing renewable energy, as emphasized by representatives of British Petroleum (BP) during their meeting with President Prabowo in London in November 2024.
"It can be seen that the UK, in terms of services, education, and health, is very, very large. Apart from that, they are also focusing on renewable energy, as announced last November by British Petroleum, which is also investing in gas and also new and renewable energy," Bakrie stated.
Regarding the opportunity to increase British investment in Indonesia, Bakrie admitted that he is very optimistic about this.
According to him, Indonesia has its own advantages that can be a supporting factor for investment to enter Indonesia.
"So Indonesia has its own attractiveness because of its stability, sustainability, and leadership, and also in terms of ease of doing business. Although there are still many things that need to be improved," Bakrie remarked.
In addition, Bakrie emphasized that the UK had left the European Union, and he believes that trade and investment cooperation between Indonesia and the UK could still be increased in the future.
Because, according to him, the UK currently needs trade and political partners in the region, as a result of its decision to leave the European Union.
"The UK has the capability, because indeed industrialization initially came from there. But because it has left the European Union, of course they also need partners in trading, investing, and even geopolitically in the Asia Pacific or commonly called the Indo-Pacific. So I think this is what makes it interesting," he concluded.
