Following the meeting, Karding explained that his ministry intends to involve Kadin in addressing issues related to Indonesian migrant workers (PMI), focusing on three key topics: solutions for job creation, efforts to enhance human resource (HR) development, and empowerment initiatives for migrant workers.

"These three areas were the main points of our discussion with Kadin. We’re encouraging Kadin to actively participate, particularly in the preparation of human resources for placements abroad," Karding stated at the Ministry of P2MI office in Jakarta on Monday (Feb 17).

Karding further elaborated that, to date, 80% of Indonesian migrant workers abroad are still employed in the domestic sector.

Through Kadin's involvement, Karding hopes there will be significant improvements in the quality of HR among migrant workers.

This would ensure better placement opportunities overseas, along with enhanced protection for these workers.

To achieve this shared goal, Karding confirmed that a joint team between the Ministry of P2MI and Kadin Indonesia has been formed to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties, with a prototype expected to be completed by August 2025.

"We have already formed a team to draft the MoU with Kadin. By August 2025, at the latest, we expect to have a completed prototype ready to launch. We hope Kadin can assist the government in preparing high-quality human resources and facilitating the placement of qualified migrant workers abroad," he explained.

At the same event, Bakrie emphasized that Kadin Indonesia is very open to collaborating with the Ministry of P2MI and committed to finalizing the MoU prototype by August 2025, with plans to implement and further develop it afterward.

"We are fully open and eager to collaborate because the benefits are immediately tangible. We’ve discussed with the Minister whether we could complete a prototype before August 17, 2025, so that once it’s operational, we can continue to expand and refine it," Bakrie stated.

He expressed confidence that the synergy between Kadin Indonesia and the Ministry of P2MI would significantly enhance the quality of Indonesian migrant workers and strengthen the protection provided by the government.

This, he said, would ensure that the efforts to safeguard migrant workers abroad become increasingly effective in the future.
