QRIS to Power Commuting: MRT, KRL Payments Go Digital

Jakarta, VIVA – Bank Indonesia will implement Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) transactions based on Near Field Communication (NFC) or QRIS Tap for public transportation, such as MRT and KRL.
Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendrata said the implementation will take place in the first quarter of 2025.
QRIS Tap had previously been trialed in Damri transportation services with a flat rate system.
"In the near future, we will pilot QRIS Tap for variable rates, including multiple rates for MRT and KRL. Hopefully, everything will be fully implemented in the first quarter of 2025," Filianingsih said on Wednesday (Jan 15).

Bank Indonesia reported that the volume of QRIS transactions in 2024 increased by 175 percent year on year (yoy), with the nominal value rising by 166 percent. This year, the QRIS transaction volume is targeted to reach 6.5 billion.
"So, in 2025, we are targeting 6.5 billion transactions, with 58 million users and 40 million merchants," Filianingsih remarked.
Earlier, Filianingsih mentioned that the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI) and the industry are ready to implement QRIS Tap.
However, Bank Indonesia is currently preparing both the business and technical aspects.
"We have conducted trials. System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) were all successful, with a 100 percent success rate," she concluded.
