Hajj Fees May Decrease Again, Minister Gunawan Reveals

Jakarta, VIVA – The government is currently calculating options to reduce the cost of Hajj further, with assistance from the Saudi Arabian government.
"The cost of Hajj is being calculated because the Saudi Arabian government will provide support. We will be given our own dedicated area," said Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday (January 13).
However, Minister Gunawan did not provide detailed information about the realization of this potential cost reduction.
With support from the Saudi Arabian government, more Indonesian pilgrims will be accommodated in a dedicated area specifically for Indonesia, potentially lowering the Hajj cost percentage further.
Earlier, the Working Committee on Hajj Costs from the House of Representatives Commission VIII and the government, in a joint meeting at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, agreed on the 2025 Hajj Organizing Cost (BPIH) at IDR 89.4 million.
Prospective pilgrims are expected to pay IDR 55.4 million per person for the Hajj pilgrimage.
The Chairperson of Commission VIII, Marwan Dasopang, noted that the 2025 BPIH represents a reduction of around IDR 4 million compared to 2024.
Meanwhile, during a meeting between the Hajj Cost Working Committee and President Prabowo Subianto, Dasopang revealed that the President indicated his desire for the 2025 Hajj organizing and travel costs to be reduced even further.

"The President thanked the committee members, but it seems that he is still not satisfied and wants it to be lower," Dasopang stated on a separate occasion.
He added that the burden on prospective pilgrims could be reduced by approximately IDR 600,000, while the benefits fund's burden would decrease from IDR 8 trillion to around IDR 6.8 trillion.
The Hajj Cost Working Committee from the House of Representatives also emphasized their commitment to closely monitoring its implementation on the ground.
The committee also highlighted their focus on other Hajj-related matters, including the waiting list, integrated Hajj computer systems, quotas for departing pilgrims, and other rights of the pilgrims.
