Indonesia to Set Age Limits for Children on Social Media

Jakarta, VIVA – The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Communication and Informatics will issue regulations regarding age restrictions for children using social media.
"The government will first issue regulations while simultaneously (waiting for) a stronger study on child protection," Minister Hafid said after meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Central Jakarta, on Monday (Jan 13).
She mentioned that these regulations will be temporary while waiting for other regulations to be issued by the House of Representatives.
According to her, the House of Representatives are currently reviewing the formation of a law governing age limits for accessing social media.
"We will issue regulations while discussing with the DPR what kind of regulations and laws we can issue to protect children," the minister said.
Minister Hafid emphasized that the regulations regarding age restrictions for social media users are intended to protect children.
"How we protect children in the digital realm. We'll see exactly how," she remarked.
