Jakarta, VIVA – Israeli attacks on medical facilities in northern Gaza continue despite repeated appeals from the World Health Organization (WHO) to stop the strikes.

One of the affected facilities is the Indonesian Hospital located in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza.

This hospital, once one of the largest in the region, is now barely operational after weeks of bombardment and encirclement by Israeli forces.

Dr. Rawia Tambour, a medical worker at the Indonesian Hospital, described the alarming situation.

In an audio message sent to Middle East Eye, Tambour revealed that the attacks persist, including heavy artillery fire and strikes from unmanned quadcopters.

"Israeli military vehicles are advancing toward the hospital," said Dr. Tambour, with the sound of explosions in the background further highlighting the deteriorating conditions on the ground.

The strikes have turned what should be a sanctuary for thousands of Gazan residents into a direct target.

For months, the facility has been battered by bombs and artillery fire, causing significant damage to its infrastructure.

Additionally, medical supplies are running critically low, and many healthcare workers are forced to operate under extremely dangerous and challenging conditions.

The situation in Gaza has worsened since early October, as Israeli attacks on the region have intensified.

The Indonesian Hospital, which once provided care for thousands of patients, is now struggling to survive.

Many patients in urgent need of medical attention are unable to access the hospital, which should be a lifeline for them.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the WHO, has repeatedly called on Israel to cease its attacks on hospitals and medical centers in Gaza.

In a statement earlier this week, he expressed deep concern that hospitals in Gaza have once again become battlegrounds.

He also warned that Gaza's healthcare system is under severe threat, putting the lives of countless civilians at risk.

"We repeat: stop the attacks on hospitals. People in Gaza need access to healthcare. Humanitarian workers need access to deliver medical assistance," Ghebreyesus stated.
