Jakarta, VIVA – KAI Commuter is preparing to integrate the operations of Karet Station and BNI City Station to enhance the commuter line service to Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

This effort aims to reduce travel time from 56 minutes to 40 minutes, with departures starting from Manggarai Station.

Additionally, this integration seeks to anticipate the growing number of air passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport who require faster and more efficient train transportation.

BNI City Station, located in the Dukuh Atas area, is seen as a strategic option as it is already connected to other modes of transportation such as Transjakarta, MRT, and LRT.

“This initiative addresses road traffic congestion on the way to the airport. By integrating transportation modes centralized at BNI City Station, passengers are expected to save more time and reach the airport on schedule,” said Joni Martinus, VP of Corporate Communication at KAI Commuter on Thursday (January 2).

He explained that the integration also considers the condition of Karet Station, which is deemed inadequate to accommodate the increasing number of passengers. According to KAI data, Karet Station can only accommodate about 150 people in its waiting area.

In contrast, serving nearly 2,000 passengers per hour ideally requires a waiting area capacity of up to 330 people. Moreover, access to Karet Station, which is close to a railroad crossing, often causes traffic jams.

“If combined with BNI City Station, passengers can enjoy optimal facilities and services that are also safer,” Martinus added.

Currently, the Basoetta Commuter Line serves around 1.5 million passengers annually, approximately 2.7 percent of the total 56 million passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

With this service improvement, KAI aims to serve up to 20 percent of total passengers, or about 10 million people per year.

To ensure the integration process runs smoothly, KAI Commuter is also collaborating with the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA).
