There is a new regulation that hikers must follow, the mandatory use of guide services.

BB TNBTS Public Relations Officer, Endrip Wahyutama, stated that the guides are members of PPGST (Registered Mount Semeru Climbing Guides).

The guides are locals initiated by TNBTS, who have undergone technical training to ensure they are responsible and capable of enforcing the SOPs set by TNBTS.

“They have undergone technical guidance provided by TNBTS to ensure that they can be responsible and ensure that all climbers comply with the SOPs established by TNBTS,” Wahyutama said on Friday (Dec 27).

“The fees are outside the cost of the Mount Semeru climbing tickets. The guide fees are fully received and managed by PPGST, none of it goes into state revenue. The guide services are entirely the responsibility of PPGST. For information on PPGST, it can be accessed directly via the Instagram account PPGST_TNBTS,” he explained.

The ticket prices for Mount Semeru climbing are as follows, IDR 73,000 for two weekdays, IDR 83,000 for one weekday and one holiday, and IDR 93,000 for two holidays for domestic tourists. Meanwhile, international tourists are charged IDR 435,000 per day.

“The reopening of Semeru climbing began on December 23, 2024, with the first departure on December 26, 2024. This is because, according to SOPs, TNBTS requires registration no later than three days before the departure date,” he said.

He added that this requirement is in place to allow climbers to prepare themselves adequately before their journey.

“Additionally, climbers are required to present a health certificate from a doctor or health care facility,” he concluded.
