Indonesian Supreme Court Resolves Over 30,000 Cases in 2024

Jakarta, VIVA – The Indonesian Supreme Court reported its performance results for 2024, revealing that a total of 30,763 cases were resolved throughout the year.

Chief Justice Sunarto stated that the data was derived from the total number of cases registered during 2024, which amounted to 31,112 cases.

This included 30,965 cases filed in 2024 and a backlog of 147 cases from 2023.

"As of December 20, 2024, the Supreme Court successfully resolved 30,763 cases, achieving a case resolution productivity ratio of 98.88 percent," Sunarto said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (Dec 27).

He further explained that the number of cases received in 2024 increased by 13.62 percent compared to 2023, which saw 27,252 cases filed.

"The number of resolved cases also rose by 12.42 percent compared to 2023, which recorded 27,365 resolved cases. The case resolution productivity ratio is one of the key indicators used to measure performance in case management," he added.

Sunarto also highlighted that the Supreme Court has consistently maintained a case resolution productivity ratio above 90 percent.

"Since 2017, the Supreme Court has successfully maintained a productivity ratio above 90 percent, which is an achievement worth celebrating. In fact, over the past three years, this ratio has improved further, exceeding 98 percent," he stated.

In addition to better case management, the Supreme Court also made significant strides in case archiving and delivering verdict copies to lower courts.

A total of 30,316 case files were archived and distributed in 2024.

According to Sunarto, the court’s archiving performance improved by 6.66 percent compared to 2023, which saw 28,422 cases archived.

"Of the 30,316 cases resolved in 2024, 96.52 percent, or 29,261 cases, were completed on time—within three months of the verdict being issued," he explained.

As a result, based on its 2024 performance achievements, the Supreme Court has successfully maintained an on-time archiving rate above 90 percent since 2023.
