Aceh, VIVA – The Aceh Regional Police have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in human trafficking (TPPO) in Bireuen District, Aceh. The two suspects arrested have the initials RH and JS.

Aceh Police Criminal Investigation Director, Police Grand Commissioner, Ade Harianto, stated that the two suspects were apprehended at different locations.

Harianto explained that the suspects lured their victims by promising them employment as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). The victims were promised legal work as sales staff in Laos, with the lure of high salaries and bonuses.

The victims were told they would travel through the Riau–Malaysia–Thailand route before arriving in Laos.

“In Malaysia, all of the victims’ identification documents were confiscated by another agent, who is part of RH's group. It was also conveyed to the victims that they had been sold to a boss in Laos for Rp10 million,” Harianto said on Tuesday (Dec 24).

Upon arriving in Laos, the victims were forced to work as administrators for love scamming, a form of cybercrime. They were given targets to defraud others.

“If they failed to meet the targets, the victims were threatened with being sold to Myanmar. If they tried to escape, they would be killed,” he added.

Furthermore, Harianto urged the public, especially high school graduates or college students skilled in communication and IT, not to be tempted by offers of high-paying jobs abroad.

He also reminded everyone to avoid involvement in scamming jobs, as these activities are harmful and violate Indonesian laws as well as the laws of other countries.
