IKN Airport to Begin Commercial Operations by Early 2025
- Sekretariat Presiden
Jakarta, VIVA – The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) is targeting the completion of the 3,000-meter runway at the IKN Airport by early 2025. Once completed, the airport is set to transition to commercial operations.
Troy Pantouw, Special Staff to the Head of OIKN for Public Communication, stated that the progress of the IKN airport project has currently reached 75.9 percent.Â
"Globally, there is already a holding terminal in place, and it will be open to the public. Initially, it was mentioned as a VVIP airport, but it has now been decided to open it for public use. However, construction is still ongoing," Pantouw said on Thursday (Dec 20).
Meanwhile, OIKN’s Deputy for Funding and Investment, Agung Wicaksono, explained that the airport’s runway, which currently spans 2,200 meters, has already been completed. However, a longer runway is required to accommodate larger aircraft.
"The 2,200-meter runway has been finished, but to accommodate wide-body aircraft, it needs to be extended to 3,000 meters. This extension is still being finalized," he noted.
The runway extension is targeted for completion by early next year. With this extension, the status of IKN's VVIP airport will transition to a commercial airport.
"The ideal target was by the end of the year, but to ensure better and more thorough execution, it will be completed at the beginning of the year. The status transition to a commercial airport or otherwise is still being deliberated by the Ministry of Transportation. If it is to become a commercial airport, a Presidential Decree will be required. Currently, it remains a VVIP state airport," Pantouw concluded.
