Jakarta, VIVA – The Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Bakrie, emphasized that in addition to supporting the government in achieving its investment targets and 8 percent economic growth, Kadin is also committed to ensuring the welfare of workers in the country.
Bakrie expressed this commitment during a meeting with the Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, and the Deputy Minister of Manpower, Immanuel Ebenezer, at the Ministry of Manpower office in Jakarta.
The meeting was held in response to the issuance of Minister of Manpower Regulation (Permenaker) Number 16 of 2024 concerning the Determination of the Minimum Wage for 2025, which is set at 6.5 percent. The regulation has sparked both support and criticism among the public.
"I see that we share the same vision, which is not only to support economic growth and investment but also to ensure the welfare of workers," he stated.
Bakrie urged Kadin members to make every effort to prevent layoffs within their respective businesses.
"We believe the key is to minimize layoffs as much as possible," he added.
However, Bakrie also stressed that the increase in the minimum wage, aimed at improving workers' welfare, should be accompanied by efforts to enhance their productivity.
"Whatever has been decided by the government regarding the regional minimum wage increase must be coupled with productivity improvements. Since it has been established, we want to ensure a conducive environment in the field. In fact, both the Minister and Deputy Minister are very open to ensuring that productivity aligns with the wage increase," Bakrie explained.
In this regard, Bakrie confirmed that the Ministry of Manpower and Kadin have agreed to form a working group or task force between the government and Kadin Indonesia.
The group will address various labor-related issues, discuss the substantive problems, and jointly find solutions to tackle these challenges.
"Moreover, the Minister has agreed to establish a task force between the government and Kadin to ensure discussions are not just talk but based on data, substance, and actionable solutions," he concluded.
