VP Gibran Steps in as Acting President During Prabowo's Visit to Egypt

Jakarta, VIVA –President Prabowo Subianto handed over the duties of the Head of State to Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. This is in connection with Prabowo's upcoming state visit abroad for several days.
As a result, VP Gibran officially becomes the Acting President of the Republic of Indonesia, as stipulated in Presidential Decree Number 34 of 2024 regarding the Assignment of the Vice President to Carry Out Presidential Duties.
This decree was signed by Prabowo on December 16, 2024. The decree states that this transfer of duties is deemed necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the government.
"The Vice President is assigned to carry out the daily duties of the President in accordance with the regulations during the President's official visit an
d working visit to Egypt and the D-8 Summit from December 17 to 19, 2024, or until the President's return to the country," the decree states, as quoted on Tuesday (Dec 17).
It further explains that if a new policy needs to be established during this assignment, Gibran must first seek approval from Prabowo.
"If, during the assignment period, a new policy needs to be implemented, the Vice President, as Acting President, must first consult and seek approval from the President," the decree stated.
Once the President returns to Indonesia, the assignment will end, and the Vice President must immediately report the implementation of these duties to Prabowo.
