Jakarta, VIVA – National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has urged the public to rest when feeling fatigued while driving during the Christmas and New Year holidays (Nataru).
He emphasized the importance of driving within one's physical limits and prioritizing safety to reduce the number of traffic accidents.
"Perhaps that was one of the points discussed in the meeting—how to reduce the number of traffic accidents and decrease the number of victims, both fatalities and serious injuries," General Prabowo said on Monday (Dec 16).
He reminded the public traveling during the Nataru period to make use of the facilities provided, such as rest areas, to take breaks when feeling tired or drowsy after long hours of driving.
The police have also prepared various types of posts in rest areas, including 1,852 security posts, 735 service posts, and 207 integrated posts.
"Our hope is that people can drive effectively for 7 or 8 hours, and if they feel tired, they should immediately take a rest. We’ve prepared the necessary facilities," he stated.
He added that the police have prepared referral hospitals in areas prone to traffic accidents so that victims can receive immediate medical attention.
"These are referral hospitals, and we’ve also deployed officers on the ground who are ready to take rescue measures if accidents occur," he concluded.
