Prabowo Highlights Record-Breaking Indonesian Education Budget for 2025
- Sekretariat Presiden
Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, announced that the education budget in the 2025 State Budget (APBN) would be the highest in the nation's history, despite ongoing challenges in the education sector.
"We're pleased that even within one month of assuming office, we have been able to improve teacher welfare," said the President on Wednesday (Nov 28).
According to President Prabowo, civil servant teachers (ASN) will receive an additional allowance equal to one basic salary. Meanwhile, non-civil servant teachers (non-ASN) will see their allowances increased to IDR 2 million per month.
"The budget for the welfare of ASN and non-ASN teachers in 2025 will increase to IDR 81.6 trillion, up by IDR 16 trillion compared to the previous year," the President noted.
Additionally, the government plans to hold teacher professional education programs (PPG) for both ASN and non-ASN teachers. By 2025, the quota will cover over 800,000 teachers, with participation requiring a minimum qualification of a bachelor's degree (S1) or a diploma 4 (D4).
"Currently, there are 249,000 teachers who do not yet meet these qualifications," the President highlighted, stating that the government would provide educational assistance for those teachers to pursue further studies.
Furthermore, Prabowo mentioned plans to enhance the welfare of non-ASN teachers by offering financial transfers, with the specific amounts to be disclosed in 2025.
"Right now, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is mapping out the eligible recipients for this assistance," he concluded.
