Government Lowers Airfares to Boost Holiday Travel Demand

Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto discussed strategies to reduce domestic airfare during a limited cabinet meeting.
This initiative aims to ease public burdens while boosting the economy and tourism ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated the policy will be announced and implemented before the 2024 year-end holidays.
Tickets are expected to become about 10 percent cheaper nationwide, achieved by cutting airport service fees, aviation fuel costs, and fuel surcharges.
The plan will apply to 19 major airports, with details forthcoming.
Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) emphasized the potential economic benefits for creative industries, while Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi highlighted reduced aviation-related expenses as a key factor.
