Prabowo Pushes Strategic Economic Partnerships between Indonesia, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the many similarities between Indonesia and Brazil, ranging from natural resources to a shared strategic vision for the future.

The head of state made this statement at the Indonesia-Brazil Business Forum held at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday (Nov 17). The forum brought together business leaders from both nations.

President Prabowo stated that, as two countries with large populations and abundant natural resources, Indonesia and Brazil have significant potential for strategic economic cooperation, particularly in the energy, industrial, and maritime sectors.

“Brazil has already advanced in its industries, while Indonesia is striving to catch up through industrialization. I am confident we can create strong synergy and mutually beneficial relations,” the president remarked.

He also expressed his support for Brazil’s role as a key member of BRICS, emphasizing the growing influence of BRICS as an economic organization on the global stage.

The President reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to becoming a BRICS member as part of its strategy to strengthen the national economy.

"I sent the Foreign Minister to attend the BRICS Summit in Kazan just one day after my cabinet was inaugurated. Indonesia is eager to join Brazil and other BRICS members,” the President said.

Furthermore, President Prabowo underscored the importance of food security as a fundamental foundation for a nation’s development. He expressed interest in learning from Brazil’s successful free food program.

“I want to learn from Brazil’s successful program. I have instructed my team to arrange further collaboration with the Brazilian Ambassador to Indonesia,” he stated.

In the energy sector, President Prabowo also highlighted the substantial potential for cooperation in the development of biofuels and renewable energy.

Indonesia is ambitious in increasing its biodiesel use to 50 percent by 2025, leveraging palm oil as the primary raw material.
