Prabowo, Biden to Focus on Defense Strategy for Ensure Regional Stabilty

Washington DC, VIVA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and his United States counterpart, Joe Biden, in a bilateral meeting at the White House in Washington D.C., on Tuesday (November 12), expressed commitment to strengthening defense cooperation.
According to a joint statement document published by the White House on its official website, as cited here on Wednesday, the two leaders are committed to strengthening bilateral defense cooperation by reaffirming their shared commitment to regional security and stability.
Prabowo and Biden also emphasized the significance of the Defense Cooperation Arrangement that was concluded in 2023, as quoted from Antara site.
Both leaders pledged to work together to strengthen maritime security capabilities and to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, as well as fishing associated with transnational organized crime.
On that occasion, Biden praised Indonesia for successfully hosting the 2024 Super Garuda Shield exercise and the potential expansion of the multilateral exercise.
The multilateral exercise aims to enhance collective security capabilities to better prepare for the increasingly complex global landscape.
Moreover, Prabowo and Biden reaffirmed their intent to hold the 2nd US-Indonesia Senior Officials’ Foreign Policy and Defense Dialogue next year.They also plan to organize the 21st US-Indonesia Security Dialogue (IUSSD) and the US-Indonesia Bilateral Defense Discussion (USIBDD) in 2025.
Both leaders also welcomed the establishment of the Indonesian Coast Guard (Bakamla) ‘Anambas’ Maritime Training Center in Batam this year, funded by the US.
The leaders expressed commitment to exploring the establishment of a defense alumni network to bolster defense cooperation ties.
Related to the handling of terrorism, both Prabowo and Biden condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and committed to working together to prevent and counter terrorism.
