West Java, VIVA – Promoting tolerance can be achieved through various approaches, each of which contributes to building a more inclusive and understanding society.
Education plays a key role by teaching individuals, from a young age, the importance of respecting different backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives.
A young man named Ai Nurhidayat is introducing Indonesia's rich diversity through multicultural education at Bakti Parigi, a vocational school in Pangandaran, West Java.
Initially, he was concerned about the strong ethnocentrism in his community, which stemmed from limited knowledge of other cultures.

Driven by this, Nurhidayat, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Paramadina University, established Bakti Karya Vocational school in 2011.
This school is a public movement aimed at encouraging the local community to appreciate Indonesia's diversity. It offered three years of free education, supported by the surrounding community.
The program not only promotes multiculturalism but also brings together students from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.
In 2019, the Multicultural Class has attracted 250 volunteers and mentors. Hundreds of students from 20 provinces, representing 24 different ethnic groups, were learning to become cultural bridges and ambassadors, connecting their own regions with others across Indonesia.
In recognition of his impactful work, Nurhidayat was honored with the SATU Indonesia Awards by Astra in 2019.
