Minister Uno Invited Investors to Boost Indonesia's Tourism Sector

Meanwhile, for domestic tourists (national visitors), the cumulative number from January to August 2024 reached 5.99 million, up 19.20 percent compared to the same period last year.

This growth is expected to continue in line with the increasing demand for sustainable tourism as the future of the tourism sector.

"This aligns with the digital transformation happening globally, which must be adopted by tourism players in Indonesia," he remarked.

The minister cited a report from the World Economic Forum (WEF), released on May 21, 2024, which showed that Indonesia is among the top 10 countries with the best Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) performance since 2019, with an increase of 4.5 percent in its score.

“Indonesia is now ranked 22nd out of 119 countries, above Belgium, 6th in the Asia-Pacific region, and 2nd in ASEAN. This success is the result of the penta-helix collaboration among all stakeholders in the tourism sector,” Minister Uno explained.

He added, "There is no room for hesitation in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of the ongoing digital transformation."

He emphasized that the concept of a sustainable economy, encompassing the Blue Economy, Green Economy, and Circular Economy, is becoming increasingly relevant.

The integration of Blue-Green-Circular Economy (BGCE) concepts with AI technology to create eco-friendly, efficient, and sustainable tourism should be implemented early on, he continued.

Meanwhile, the Director of Strategic Studies at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Agustini Rahayu, also mentioned that in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029, the development of quality tourism destinations will align with the market's growing preference for sustainable and regenerative tourism.

“This will involve expanding tourism with a focus on the blue, green, and circular economy, including building green infrastructure for basic and supporting tourism infrastructure, as well as enhancing human resources (HR),” Rahayu said.
