Prabowo Urges Energy Self-sufficiency with B100 Biodiesel

Jakarta, VIVA – President-elect Prabowo Subianto is committed to achieving energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia during his leadership.
One of the strategic steps he plans to take is expanding the use of environmentally friendly biodiesel fuel through a mandatory biodiesel program up to 100 percent (B100).
Subianto explained that energy self-sufficiency is crucial, especially in light of the current geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

“We must achieve energy independence. We can no longer rely on fuel imports if a crisis occurs,” Subianto said at the BNI Investor Daily Summit on Wednesday (Oct 9).
According to Subianto, the potential conflict between Israel and Iran could affect the stability of the global energy supply. Such conditions would threaten energy supply and drive up global crude oil prices.
He revealed that Israel is predicted to attack Iran's oil fields, which could prompt Iran to retaliate by striking the oil fields of U.S. allies, such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
“There are predictions that Israel will attack Iran's oil fields. Iran has said that if their oil and gas fields are attacked, they will retaliate by targeting the oil fields of America’s allies,” he stated.
Therefore, he emphasized that domestic fuel needs must be met using available plant-based resources.
Indonesia, in particular, has a significant opportunity with technology capable of producing diesel fuel from palm oil, even up to B100.
“Now, we have the technology to make diesel from palm oil, not just B35 or B50, but we can produce B100. Gasoline can also be made from palm oil,” he concluded.
