Bakrie Revealed Obstacles in Indonesia-EU Trade Relations

Then, a man who is also the CEO of Bakrie & Brothers explained that to achieve the 8 percent economic growth target, five main keys are required.

The first key is low-expense consumption, where businesses can strengthen people's purchasing power.

Second, the government has "arms" to expand infrastructure, not only in construction but also including hospitals and schools.

Third, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), where businesses can play a role.

"This is where entrepreneurs can play a role. How we can create a favorable business climate with good rule of law, so people feel comfortable entering Indonesia. When we talk about FDI, it’s not just for 1 or 2 years but for 5, 10, or even 15 years," he explained.

The fourth key, about export-based investment, which will at least have an impact on added value.

"And last, it's about the green economy, blue economy, and digital economy, where we have the right to speak and play a role globally," Bakrie said.

He also mentioned that over the past two decades, Indonesia has experienced remarkable economic growth.

"We used to be a low-income country with a GNI per capita below $1,145 (in 1970-1995). Now, Indonesia has reached its peak as an upper-middle-income country with a GNI of $4,870 per capita (in 2023)," he remarked.

Moreover, Bakrie stated that many future government programs are excellent and can be collaborated on, such as energy security, food security, health security, infrastructure security, and more.

"For that, extra efforts are needed to achieve Indonesia's Golden Vision 2045. The year 2024 is a crucial moment that we must seize as a stepping stone toward becoming a high-income country by 2045," Bakrie concluded.
