Minister Kartasasmita Awarded Honoris Causa by Hiroshima University

Japan, VIVA – Indonesia’s Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, officially received an Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) from Hiroshima University, Japan, on Tuesday (Sept 24).
The award was given in recognition of his contributions to the development of the industrial sector, his support for academia, and Indonesia's strategic role in advancing global initiatives alongside Hiroshima University.
In his remarks, Minister Kartasasmita expressed that the honor was invaluable.
“Receiving an Honorary Doctorate from this prestigious university is a great honor. I accept this award not only on my behalf but also on behalf of all those who have contributed to my career, whether as a legislator, politician, or government official," the minister said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 26).
Minister Kartasasmita also remarked that this honor serves as a reminder for him to continue making a broader impact on society.
He emphasized that such recognition comes with great responsibility, requiring him to continually strive to create positive change, help others, and uphold the essential principles tied to the award.
"Principles such as honesty, dedication, and intellectual curiosity," he stated.
Minister Kartasasmita is the third Indonesian to receive an honorary degree from Hiroshima University, following Hasan Rahaya and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
According to the minister, the award signifies that contributions to a greater cause extend beyond personal achievements.
“This award is a reminder that we have the capacity to contribute to goals beyond ourselves,” he concluded.
