Jakarta, VIVA – Over the past decade, Indonesia's diplomacy has achieved significant milestones on both regional and international stages. Deputy Foreign Minister, Pahala Nugraha Mansury, highlighted that Indonesia's foreign policy adheres to the principle of a "free and active" approach, implemented in a well-measured and calculated manner, with a focus on action and results.

Indonesia Begins to Play Important Role in World Diplomacy

"Over the past 10 years, Indonesia has proven itself capable of standing firm amid global geopolitical and economic dynamics," Pahala said during the Merdeka Barat 9 Forum on September 23, which discussed Indonesia's decade of diplomacy.

One of the core pillars of Indonesian diplomacy over the past decade has been economic diplomacy. Despite global challenges like trade wars and geopolitical crises, Indonesia expanded market access through 27 international trade agreements and opened new markets in Latin America, Africa, and the Caribbean.

This contributed to an increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) from USD28 billion in 2014 to USD50 billion in 2023, particularly in sectors like renewable energy, food, and health.

Indonesia also played a pivotal role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (2019-2020), leading initiatives such as the resolution on women in peacekeeping. "Indonesia’s leadership at the UN Security Council reflects the nation's growing influence on the global stage," Pahala noted.

Moreover, Indonesia has consistently supported Palestine in international forums, advocating for an end to Israeli occupation and backing a two-state solution. Indonesia also provided substantial humanitarian aid to Palestine.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia secured 516 million vaccine doses, with 26.5% coming from international donations, and took part in the COVAX initiative, ensuring equitable vaccine access for developing nations.

In 2022, Indonesia successfully chaired the G20 and, in 2023, led ASEAN, promoting regional resilience and economic growth. These achievements underscore Indonesia's commitment to shaping a more just, stable, and peaceful world order.
