Jokowi: Solo-Yogyakarta Toll Road Development Costs IDR 5.6 Trillion

Solo, VIVA – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the Solo-Yogyakarta-YIA Kulonprogo Toll Road Section is officially operational.

This toll section connects Kartasura to Klaten, and it was inaugurated at the Banyudono Toll Gate in Boyolali Regency, Central Java, on Thursday (Sept 19). The toll road spans 22.3 kilometers.

"The Solo-Yogyakarta-Kulon Progo toll road section 1 from Kartasura to Klaten, stretching 22.3 kilometers, has been completed and is ready for operation," the head of state said.

The construction of this toll road began in 2021 with a budget of IDR 5.6 trillion.

He also expressed hope that the toll road would enhance connectivity and accessibility between Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).

"This will improve connectivity and accessibility from Solo, Central Java, to the Special Region of Yogyakarta," he remarked.

President Jokowi further stated that the existence of this toll road will significantly shorten travel time, which previously could be delayed by severe traffic jams on the main Solo-Yogyakarta route, sometimes lasting up to 6 hours.

"Indeed, the reality on the ground. Yet, we need competitiveness, speed, and punctuality, which are no longer negotiable."

Additionally, President Jokowi stated that the toll road is expected to support economic growth in the surrounding areas and spur the development of new economic hubs.

"We hope this will boost the local economy and trigger the growth of new economic centers around the toll road," he concluded.
