Penajam Paser Utara, VIVA – The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) Spokesperson Troy Pantouw predicted that the Garuda Presidential Palace in the new capital city, Nusantara (IKN), has the potential to be like the White House, the official residence of the President of the United States (US) in Washington DC, in that it could be public-friendly and open to visitors.

"Currently, we only allow access to the Plaza Ceremony area, but it is possible that in the future it will be opened up like the White House," he said while at IKN on Tuesday (Sept 17).

When the Plaza Ceremony and the Kusuma Bangsa Nusantara Park were first opened to the public on September 16, the number of registrants through the application was very high, despite the daily visitor limit being set at 300 people.

However, the public need not worry if they missed their chance to visit those two sites, as there will be opportunities to visit on subsequent days, provided they register again via the IKNOW application, as these opportunities are made available daily.

Pantouw also stated that OIKN and other stakeholders are already considering direct tour packages to the Presidential Palace, especially since OIKN has already opened access for the public to view this national achievement.

According to him, realizing this will take time and further studies are needed to ensure everything runs safely and smoothly.

"Allowing the public to visit IKN is still a very new concept. Even for them (the White House), it took several terms before it was opened to the public," he remarked.

Currently, IKN remains open to the public with various limitations, as the capital city is still under construction.

This situation inevitably impacts the number of visitors who can explore Nusantara City, with access currently limited to the Plaza Ceremony and the Kusuma Bangsa Park.

"Public visits are capped at 300 people, considering several factors, one of which is ensuring that ongoing construction is not disrupted. We are continually evaluating this," Pantouw explained.

He said that IKN is currently focused on developing the Core Government Area (KIPP), based on the initial construction planning concept. Afterward, other aspects will be addressed, including security measures for visits to the Presidential Palace.
