Govt Forms Maritime Coordination Center to Strengthen National Security

Jakarta, VIVA – The Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Transportation Ministry has officially established the Maritime Coordination Center (MCC), which will serve as a Maritime Data Integration Center.

Antoni Arif Priadi, Director General of Sea Transportation, stated that the establishment of the MCC aims to improve coordination and effectiveness in ensuring maritime safety in Indonesian waters.

“The establishment of the MCC is intended to serve as Indonesia's Maritime Data Integration Center, operating 24 hours a day under the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, with personnel consisting of staff from the Directorate of Navigation and the Directorate of the Sea and Coast Guard (KPLP),” said Priadi in Jakarta, on Friday (Sept 13).

He further explained that the MCC is tasked with receiving and disseminating Maritime Safety Information (MSI).

This is in accordance with the Indonesian Minister of Transportation's Decision No. KM 22 of 2024 regarding Guidelines for the Broadcasting of Maritime Safety Information (MSI).

In addition, the MCC conducts daily Regional Data Center (RDC) meetings online, covering the Eastern, Central, and Western regions.

It also produces reports on navigational warnings, Search and Rescue (SAR) information, and other related safety information for ships.

“The MCC also provides data and information for monitoring, surveillance, security, and maritime safety, as well as environmental protection in Indonesian waters," he said.

He continued, "It also identifies and detects the presence and movement of ships in real-time in both Indonesian and international waters for Indonesian-flagged vessels,”

The MCC also executes communication and reporting procedures during emergencies.

Furthermore, the MCC has coordinated the broadcasting of Maritime Safety Information and is integrated with Coastal Radio Stations (SROP), Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), and NAVTEX Stations under the Directorate General of Sea Transportation across Indonesia.

The MCC is also integrated with data from various applications, agencies, ministries, or other institutions, such as the Automatic Identification System (AIS) for ship monitoring, including Satellite AIS and Terrestrial AIS, which can be accessed via the I-Motion app or website and AIS Live, as well as Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) systems.
