Washington DC, VIVA – Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris claimed during her debate that Republican candidate Donald Trump would push for a national abortion ban if he won the presidency.
Trump dismissed this as a lie, arguing that Harris struggled to articulate her views on abortion, one of her strongest issues. During the tense debate, both candidates' microphones remained on, allowing the audience to hear them alternate speaking.
Harris criticized what she termed "Trump's abortion ban," emphasizing the immorality of policies lacking exceptions for rape or incest.
She vowed to restore Roe vs Wade protections if elected. Then, She also stressed the importance of individual freedom in making decisions about one's body, arguing that these decisions should not be dictated by the government.
Trump responded by falsely claiming that some states allow the killing of babies after birth, which the moderator quickly corrected. He defended his support for a six-week abortion ban, accusing Democrats of radicalism in their abortion policies.
