IKN Airport Set for Completion by End of 2024, Minister Says

Penajam Paser Utara, VIVA – Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi revealed that the overall progress of the Nusantara Airport construction in the new capital city, Nusantara (IKN) has currently reached 74.79 percent, with 273 days of work completed.
Minister Sumadi expressed optimism that the IKN Airport will be fully completed as scheduled, by December 31, 2024. He emphasized that significant progress has been made in the construction of the IKN Airport.
"As of today, the construction of the runway has reached 1,975 meters. This is still on target. In the near future, it will be extended to 2,200 meters," the minister stated on Monday (Sept 9).
At the end of August, the runway was only 1,025 meters long. Construction has been progressing rapidly despite occasional drizzle and rain.
In addition to the runway, Minister Marsudi highlighted that progress is also visible in other areas of the airport. For instance, the construction of the VVIP terminal has reached 90.16 percent, up from 82.6 percent last month. Meanwhile, the VIP terminal is 77.06 percent complete.
As for supporting facilities, the ATC tower is currently 53.71 percent complete, the administration and operations building has reached 61.03 percent completion, and the PKP-PK building is 68.71 percent complete.
"To date, the construction is proceeding well. The main challenge remains the unpredictable weather, which has slightly slowed the work. However, everything is still on track," minister Sumadi stated.
Regarding the roads providing access to the airport, more than 50 percent have been constructed. The main access road is 98.53 percent complete, the western perimeter road is 66.96 percent complete, and the eastern perimeter road is 50.44 percent complete.
"These roads will eventually provide access to and from the airport," he concluded.
