Pertamina Allocates 15 Percent of Capital Expenditure for Energy Transition
- Pertamina
Jakarta, VIVA – Pertamina has allocated 15 percent of its total capital expenditure to support energy transition efforts in the country. This was revealed by the President Director, Nicke Widyawati.
"Pertamina has allocated around 15 percent of its total capex to support the energy transition and the development of a low-carbon business portfolio," Widyawati said at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 at JCC Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (Sept 5).
She emphasized that this figure is significantly higher than the global average for energy companies in their efforts to support the energy transition.
"Pertamina always support the Indonesian government's target of achieving net zero emissions by 2060, or even sooner," Widyawati remarked.
Furthermore, she emphasized that Pertamina is also committed to maintaining national energy security as a top priority in supporting Indonesia's economic growth.
In its implementation, Pertamina applies a dual growth strategy, which involves maintaining and enhancing existing businesses to ensure national energy security while also developing low-carbon businesses.
Pertamina is expanding gas infrastructure as a key energy source to support the energy transition, while simultaneously developing geothermal energy, which could be the best environmentally friendly energy option for Indonesia.
"Pertamina has also been advancing biofuels, the implementation of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology, as well as Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), which have proven to reduce emissions," she concluded.
