Egypt Offered Indonesia Collaboration on Data Center Investment

Bali, VIVA – Egypt has offered to invest in the data center projects of Indonesian companies, Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi said on the sidelines of the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in Badung, Bali, on Monday (Sept 2).

"The Egyptian government has offered Indonesian companies to invest in their data center project," the minister said.

He added, "Besides data center investment, Egypt has sought collaboration with Indonesia to improve the development of the digital sector in the two countries,"

Minister Setiadi explained that the offer of cooperation as special considering that Egypt was the first country to recognize Indonesia's independence in 1945.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Minister of Communication and Informatics Technology, Amr Talaat, said that he has agreed to expand cooperation in the fields of information, communication, and technology (ICT) with Indonesia considering the close relationship between the two countries.

According to him, Egypt has embarked on an ambitious journey to carry out digitalization and create a digital society.

"Our success in this sector can be extended to the ICT sector in Indonesia," Talaat said.

Egypt has also offered cooperation in capacity development to Indonesia. The Egyptian minister said that his country is training around 500 thousand students in various ICT specializations every year.

He then invited Indonesians to join the training programs in Egypt.

He also offered cooperation in submarine cables. The two countries have started a submarine cable consortium to provide connectivity services to Indonesia.

As the representative of the Egyptian delegation at the forum, Talaat, on behalf of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, thanked the Indonesian government for the invite to the event.

The Egyptian President emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships and the historical relations between the two countries, which are expected to be strengthened and expanded further.
