Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesia is predicted can produce fuel 100 percent derived from palm oil, known as B100.
Yudhi Fu, Director of Fumin Kingdo Bersaudara, explained that his company is partnering with Henan Hi-tech Kingdo Industrial to build a B100 factory in Bangka.
The factory is expected to better utilize palm oil waste to produce competitive products.
Henan Hi-tech Kingdo Industrial is one of the leading biodiesel companies in China.
Not only does Henan Hi-tech operate biodiesel plants in China, but it also possesses advanced and mature technology for converting palm oil waste into new energy biodiesel.
"Our B100 can not only be used domestically but also exported to America and Europe, as it complies with their renewable energy regulations," Fu said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 31).
Fu highlighted that Indonesia has an advantage in palm oil waste resources, as the country produces 55.8 million tons of palm oil annually. Of that amount, 2.2 million tons of palm oil are wasted.
Before, CPO (Crude Palm Oil) factories in Indonesia discarded it as waste, leading not only to environmental pollution but also to a waste of resources.
In recent years, factories in China have imported a significant amount of palm oil waste from Indonesia as raw material for biodiesel production.
"Since biodiesel from palm oil waste is recognized as a product that reduces carbon emissions, more than 90 percent of China's biodiesel is exported to America and Europe," Fu explained.
He stated that the use of B100 has a significant carbon emission reduction effect. He highlighted that Indonesia is one of the world's largest greenhouse gas emitters.
Indonesia has set a target to reduce emissions by 31.89 percent through its own efforts, or by 43.2 percent with international support, by 2030.
"B100 will contribute to achieving the emission reduction target," he remarked.
Other biodiesel plants in Indonesia use processed palm oil as raw material to produce biodiesel.
However, Fu said that his biodiesel plant in Bangka will use palm oil waste (POME) from CPO factories to produce biodiesel, and the price of this palm oil is much cheaper than the processed kind.
"Additionally, we use many more advanced technology from China to further reduce production costs," he said.
He added, "Therefore, it is estimated that our B100 will have a price advantage compared to existing biodiesel,"
Moreover, Fu mentioned that using B100 could help reduce crude oil imports, and palm oil is a renewable resource.
"Thus, B100 is a renewable energy source that benefits our future energy security."
Fu is confident that the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming administration will support the B100 program.
He especially believes that using B100 can save the country IDR 309 trillion.
"I'm very confident (the future government will support it) because Prabowo has stated on various occasions that he has a savings program of up to IDR 309 trillion," he concluded.
