In response, the Transportation Ministry, through the Instagram account of the Directorate General of Railways @ditjenperkeretaapian, clarified that there are several significant differences between the ART and the articulated bus, which have been highlighted by netizen.

First, the length of the ART mode reaches 30 meters, almost twice the length of an articulated bus, which is limited to a maximum of 18 meters as regulated in Government Regulation No. 5 of 2012 concerning Vehicles.

"In accordance with Government Regulation No. 5 of 2012 concerning vehicles, the overall length of an articulated bus must not exceed 18 meters. Meanwhile, the autonomous tram has an overall length of up to 30 meters," stated the post, as quoted by VIVA on Thursday (Aug 15).

The ART has two front ends, allowing it to move forward from either side of the vehicle.

On the other hand, an articulated bus has only one front end, so it can only move forward from that single front side.

Next, there is a difference in the type of track they use. The ART requires a virtual rail track in the form of road markings and magnetic sensors, enabling it to operate without a driver or conductor.

Meanwhile, an articulated bus can operate on any road without needing a virtual rail track. However, it cannot operate without a driver and must be controlled by a driver.

"The autonomous tram can only be operated on a virtual rail track in the form of road markings and magnetic sensors, equipped with sensors and radar on all sides. This allows for driverless operation, similar to the LRT Jabodebek,"

Additionally, the Ministry claims that the ART complies with the tram requirements stipulated in Law No. 23 of 2007 on Railways.

It is stated that a tram is a type of train that operates on rail tracks that are level with the road.

In this context, the virtual rail track formed by road markings and magnetic sensors is considered a rail track that guides the operation of the ART.
