Prabowo Subianto Vows to Accelerate IKN Development

Penajam Paser Utara, VIVA – Indonesian Defense Minister and also President-elect Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed his commitment to continue the construction of the new capital city (IKN) which was initiated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Subianto stated that IKN is crucial for development and for reducing the burden on Java, which has long been the center of Indonesia's population and economic activities.
"We will complete IKN properly because it is greatly needed. President Jokowi also spoke about the importance of equity and the desire to reduce the strain on Java due to the concentration of population and economic activities," Prabowo Subianto during a plenary cabinet meeting chaired by President Jokowi at the Garuda Palace IKN, East Kalimantan, on Monday (Aug 12).

He also expressed pride in the cultural atmosphere of IKN and vowed to accelerate the development process, particularly for the governmental center.
"We will continue. If possible, we will accelerate the process," he remarked.
He stressed his commitment to allocating significant budgetary support for the IKN development.
"I want to assure the authorities that the budgetary space we have prepared is substantial, and I believe we can complete several important aspects of IKN," Subianto said.
The main focus will be on constructing key government buildings, such as the MPR/DPR buildings, housing for members, and office spaces for the judiciary, including the Supreme Court (MA) and the Constitutional Court (MK).
Additionally, Subianto highlighted the importance of preparedness for potential disasters, especially forest fires, considering the concept of IKN as a forest city.
He emphasized the need for advanced technology for monitoring and additional firefighting teams.
"There must not be any threat, however small, to the capital city," he stated.
Moreover, Subianto also expressed gratitude for the support from President Jokowi and the ministers in preparing the upcoming state budget (APBN). According to Prabowo, this support makes him very optimistic despite the significant global challenges.
He feels confident that the completion of the government center in IKN will attract more investors to invest in the new capital.
"I'm optimistic that the completion of the government center, along with other investments, will attract even greater investors," he concluded.
