Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar, emphasized the importance of sustainability in preserving the environment.

This was expressed during the Environment, Climate, Forestry, and Renewable Energy Festival (LIKE 2 Festival) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, Jakarta, held from August 8-11, 2024, under the theme "10 Years of Work for Sustainability."

Minister Bakar stated that her ministry has been implementing activities and policies aimed at improving field operations or corrective actions.

These efforts are carried out by solving problems through new methods or innovative solutions and improving performance.

“Such continuity and consistency are crucial in our efforts to assure the public, the Indonesian society, and the international community on global issues related to the environment and climate," the minister remarked.

According to her, the LIKE 2 Festival is also oriented towards the road to COP 29 UNFCCC in Azerbaijan, scheduled for November.

"This festival is important to give meaning to our collective steps, both through policy measures in response to environmental and climate challenges, as well as public relations and community engagement," she stated.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Pollution Control and Environmental Damage at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Sigit Reliantoro, mentioned that 53 climate-friendly technology sessions were conducted, and 82 awards were presented to academics, media, communities, local governments, and businesses that have partnered with the ministry.

“We also provide 26 types of public consultation services from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, serving 2,020 people for consultations," he remarked.

To facilitate environmental recovery activities and the circular economy, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ready to launch public fund access services, which are expected to empower communities and create greater and more sustainable social collaboration.

The public fund is managed by the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) and can be accessed through the BPDLH website for applications.

Additionally, BPDLH Head Damayanti Ratunanda stated that this fund is intended for communities that already have environmental programs or are initiating groups concerned with the environment, such as Kalpataru recipients, green leaders, Adiwiyata schools, and environmentally conscious schools.

“The public fund for the environment aims to provide easy access to funding for communities to contribute to Indonesia's targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions," she remarked.

She added, "Moreover, it aims to create a clean and healthy environment, as well as improve the welfare of the community."
