Many people experience this phenomenon, and there are several reasons why it might happen. Stress is one of the primary causes of waking up in the middle of the night.

When we are stressed, our brains become more alert to minor disturbances. Typically, we wake up several times each night without noticing.

However, when we are stressed, we are more likely to be aware when we wake up. A mind full of worries makes it difficult to fall back asleep, as reported by IFL Science.

Our sleep is divided into several different cycles, including REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep and non-REM sleep.

At night, we move through these cycles several times. REM sleep, which is light and full of dreams, occurs more frequently towards the morning.

When we are in lighter sleep stages, we wake up more easily, especially if factors like stress are affecting our sleep.

Irregular sleep schedules or bad habits before bed, such as doomscrolling (constantly viewing bad news) or lack of fresh air, can disrupt our sleep quality. These habits make our sleep less restful and more prone to interruptions.

There are several ways to address this issue. First, try to maintain a consistent sleep routine.

Waking up and going to bed at the same time every day helps our bodies establish a healthier sleep pattern.

Second, avoid using gadgets before bed as the blue light from screens can interfere with the production of melatonin, the hormone that helps us sleep.

Third, writing down a to-do list or worries before bed can also help.

By writing down what you need to do or what is worrying you, your brain can relax, and you can sleep more soundly.
