Kalimantan – Chairman of the IKN Infrastructure Development Planning Task Force, Imam Santoso Ernawi, guarantees that the capital area of Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan will be flood-free for the next 100 years, particularly for the Central Government Core Area (KIPP).
Ernawi stated that this had been taken into consideration during the location selection and design phase. Various stakeholders had discussed the potential for flooding during the planning stage.
"From the initial establishment of this location, KIPP was set from the beginning to be flood-free for 100 years. We established it with this in mind," Ernawi said during a teleconference on the preparations for the 79th Independence Day of Indonesia at IKN on Thursday (July 11).
However, he emphasized that they are still taking anticipatory measures against potential flooding in IKN, particularly in the KIPP area.
For instance, by constructing reservoirs aimed at channeling water to prevent it from inundating the area.
On the other hand, the drainage aspect has also been designed to prevent flooding by utilizing the earth's gravitational force and appropriate placement.
"We're trying to utilize all the available potentials and how to handle them. For example, how urban drainage will work; we have prepared everything," Ernawi remarked.
Regarding the recent flood disaster near Pasar Sepaku in Planning Area (WP)-2, Ernawi assured that the government is also making continuous efforts to address this issue, even though the location is outside the KIPP area.
"Regarding the incident yesterday, it was actually outside KIPP, specifically in WP-2 near Pasar Sepaku. And, we're indeed conducting flood mitigation activities there. But that is outside KIPP," he concluded.
