Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) congratulated the extended family of the National Police at the commemoration of the 78th Anniversary of the National Police Day (Bhayangkara Day).
The President also appreciated the hard work and dedication of all members of the National Police in maintaining stability and security during the 2024 Election process and major development agendas in Indonesia.
“Indonesian police have a central role in society. They are always in touch with the daily lives of the people. The Indonesian police never take a day off. They are everywhere, leaving no area unattended," the head of state said at Pelataran Merdeka Monumen Nasional (Monas) Jakarta.
He added, "On the other hand, it means that the public also closely observes all the actions and movements of the Indonesian police."
Furthermore, the President expressed his satisfaction with a recent survey showing the police's image improving, even ranking second highest.
According to him, this must be maintained and enhanced as future challenges will become more complex and full of uncertainty, whether in terms of geopolitics, economy, technology, or climate.
“It can be done with good public communication, by being exemplary, by building a service ethic oriented towards the people,” the President said.
The head of state also emphasized that the Indonesian police must become more agile, adaptive, and have a strategic outlook, acting as a cooling system and a unifying force for diversity, being professional and impartial in law enforcement, and possessing superior technical skills over criminals.
“Especially in facing complex and sophisticated transnational crimes, the National Police must also be able to keep up with scientific and technological developments and establish cooperation to strengthen our country's security,” President Jokowi remarked.
Concluding his speech, as the 2024 regional elections approach, the President asked the National Police to support and ensure the success of this democratic event by maintaining neutrality, stability, and safeguarding democracy so that the elections can be conducted safely, honestly, and fairly.
“Happy 78th Bhayangkara Day. Be bhayangkara individuals who uphold the Tribrata Indonesian Police who are solid internally, synergistic externally, especially with the Indonesian National Army, and faithfully serve and protect the community,” President Jokowi concluded.
