Toyota Mobility Foundation Successfully Completes SMART @Ubud Program in Bali
- Toyota Indonesia
Ubud, 20 June 2024 - The Toyota Mobility Foundation has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of the Sustainable Mobility Advancing Real Transformation (SMART) @Ubud program in Ubud, Bali. This initiative aimed to introduce green transportation systems based on electrification and digital technology in the premium tourist region.
Running from September 2023 to May 2024, the program will now be handed over to the Bali Provincial Government through the Bali Provincial Transportation Agency.
SMART @Ubud introduced two main mobility solutions:
1. On-demand shuttle services using 10 xEV vehicles operating in central Ubud, connecting various key tourist points and popular sites.
2. Installation of 9 digital display monitors along the Trans Metro Dewata route. These monitors provide real-time bus schedule visualizations to enhance comfort and connectivity for public transport users.
Toyota Indonesia played a crucial role in the program, conducting research, planning, and engaging with local stakeholders. With a modern mobility system based on electrification and data, SMART @Ubud aims to serve as a role model for green transportation systems in other tourist areas across Indonesia.
Established by Toyota Motor Corporation in August 2014, the Toyota Mobility Foundation is committed to supporting sustainable mobility, collaborating with universities, governments, and various organizations to address global mobility challenges.
SMART @Ubud marks TMF's first project in Indonesia, following successful implementations in countries including the United States, Europe, Malaysia, Thailand, and India.
"We hope this small project will succeed and evolve into a visible and sustainable business model, replicable in other tourist areas, delivering significant positive impacts on the environment, society, and economy," said Nandi Julyanto, President Director of Toyota Indonesia, as quoted by VIVA Otomotif in Bali.
In addition to Ubud, green tourism transformations are also being implemented at The Stones Hotel - Legian Bali, Autograph Collection. The hotel provides airport shuttle services using Toyota electrified vehicles, including the Kijang Innova BEV, Prius PHEV, and Yaris Cross HEV, as part of their commitment to sustainable tourism.
"Toyota is committed to supporting government efforts towards achieving Net Zero Emission through various vehicle technology options," Julyanto added.
This initiative underscores Toyota's ongoing commitment to sustainable development and innovation in mobility solutions, paving the way for greener and more efficient transportation systems globally.
