Jakarta, 20 June 2024 – The 2024 Paris Olympics will be special for Indonesia, as it will feature many firsts. Anindya Novyan Bakrie, Indonesia's Chef de Mission (CdM) for the Olympics, hopes for something brilliant to come out of it.
Anindya Bakrie revealed what makes the Paris Olympics special for Indonesia. Rifda Irfanaluthfi will be the first Indonesian gymnast to compete in the event.
Then there is Bernard van Aert, a cyclist who will be the first to represent Indonesia in his discipline. Even on the Southeast Asian level, he is the first.
"This time at the 2024 Olympics, there are several firsts. From the gymnastics side, Rifda becomes the first Indonesian gymnast to enter the Olympics. It's no small feat," said Anindya during a talk in Jakarta.
Anindya also highlighted Eko Yuli Irawan's participation in the Paris Olympics. In his four previous participations, this leading Indonesian weightlifter has always won a medal.
"We have seen weightlifting several times, and Eko Yuli, who has participated four times, has always won a medal," he said.
The success of Indonesian sport climbers in qualifying for the 2024 Olympics also brings optimism to Anindya. They also have a chance to shine.
"Sport climbing will be contested individually for the first time at the Olympics. There are many factors that can make Indonesia shine," he said.
