1.9 Million Online Gambling Content Blocked Over Almost a Year

Jakarta – Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics has blocked millions of online gambling contents from July 2023 to May 2024.
“From July 17 (2023) to May 21 (2024), we have blocked 1,904,246 online gambling contents,” said Minister Budi Arie Setiadi at the Presidential Palace Complex on Wednesday (May 22).
Additionally, bank accounts and e-wallets affiliated with online gambling have been proposed for blocking. This is the result of coordination with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia.
“The blocking of affiliated bank accounts and e-wallets has reached 5,364 accounts, proposed to the OJK, and 555 e-wallets proposed to Bank Indonesia,” the Minister informed.
Furthermore, the ministry also make a coordination with all platforms, such as Google and Meta, to handle online gambling.
“We also coordinate with all platforms like Google and Meta. There have been 20,241 changes in gambling-related keywords on Google and 2,637 new keywords on Meta,” Minister Setiadi explained.
Moreover, the Minister revealed that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has issued warnings to platforms like TikTok, Google, and Meta over nearly a month from April 19 to May 21.
“We have blocked 290,850 online gambling contents, including blocking 300 e-wallet accounts over the past month,” Minister Setiadi concluded.
