Kevin Sanjaya Announces His Retirement from Badminton World

Jakarta – Indonesian men's doubles badminton player, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo announced his retirment from Badminton World on Thursday (May 16). He decided to leave the PBSI National Training Center with a verbal notification that he had conveyed to the Head of Development and Achievement Division, Ricky Soebagdja, since early April.

The 26-year-old athlete shared the reasons why he decided to retire from badminton through his personal Instagram account.

The shoulder injury that he suffered in 2017 was one of the reasons, as was the injury suffered by his playing partner.

"It started with my shoulder injury which has not gotten better since 2017. Also, my partner was injured and it ended up being impossible for us to compete for tickets to the 2024 Olympics," Sanjaya stated.

As a solution, he was given the opportunity to get a new partner, but he felt it was not suitable because both of them played in the front position.

“Then I got the opportunity to have a new partner. However, I don't think we're the right fit because we are both forward players," Sanjaya added.

A discussion was held by Sanjaya and PBSI to determine his future in the world of badminton. However, the answer given by PBSI was not what Sanjaya expected. Therefore, Sanjaya confirmed his decision to resign at the end of February.

"I waited several months, finally I got an answer in mid-January 2024. But the answers given didn't got my expectations," he informed.

"Then, at the end of February I decided to quit the world of badminton," he added.

Sanjaya also expressed his gratitude and thanks for his career in the world of badminton.

"I am very grateful that God has given me an extraordinary career in the world of badminton. I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported and prayed for my journey so far," he concluded.
