Sulawesi– Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) handed over 10 kilograms of rice food aid to residents at the Kirambu Square Tennis Court, North Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province on Tuesday.

In his remarks, the Head of State said that the importance of food support from the government for the community amidst rising global food prices.

Therefore, the President ensured that 10 kilograms of rice aid would continue to be provided until June, with the hope that it could continue until December 2024.

"For the time being, the 10 kilograms will last until June. But we pray together so that the APBN will have an excess so that it can be continued until December," the President remarked in a statement released.

President Jokowi said that rice food aid was distributed in response to rising prices at the global level due to various external factors.

In addition to El Nino climate conditions, this increase was also triggered by geopolitical conflicts which affected the food supply chain distribution channels.

"This happens in all countries where the increase exceeds ours. Because, there's a long drought, El Nino, war in Palestine, and also war in Ukraine," the President informed.

Furthermore, President Jokowi remarked that the existence of rice assistance was a concrete step to ease the burden on the community.

“This is something to be grateful for. All countries are now experiencing difficulties due to rising food prices," he concluded,
