Government to Form Special Task Force for Handling Online Gambling

Jakarta – Indonesian Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiyadi revealed data of online gambling transaction has reached IDR327 triliun during 2023.
This was reported by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).
The Minister directly reported this data to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin during a limited meeting on the eradication of online gambling at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (April 18).
"We discussed according to PPATK data, the turnover of money is around IDR 327 trillion. Only in Indonesia," the minister said after the meeting.
Minister Setiadi remarked that the President expressed his concern because there are many people still trapped in online gambling. Even, 4 individuals choose to suicide because of it.
"Just this year, as I mentioned at the beginning of the meeting, there have been 4 suicides due to online gambling. Our country needs to take this seriously," the minister stated.
Therefore, in this limited meeting, Minister Setiadi continued that the government will immediately form a special Task Force to handle online gambling.
This task force will consist of all relevant ministries and agencies involved in law enforcement and financial circulation.
"This will involve all ministries and agencies holistically. It will involve law enforcement agencies, the Communication Ministry, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), PPATK, and others," Minister Setiadi concluded.
