Tangerang – Based in London, England, the intelligence travel agency OAG Aviation Worldwide Limited has released its latest data on the busiest airports in Southeast Asia in April 2024. The result shows that Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta) is at the top position.
Angkasa Pura (AP) II also recorded that the seating capacity at the airport reached 3.34 million seats in April 2024, the highest among airports in Southeast Asia. This was driven by the Eid al-Fitr travel activities in 2024.
Vice President Corporate Communication of AP II, Cin Asmoro, stated that the Eid al-Fitr holidays contributed to Soekarno-Hatta Airport being the busiest in Southeast Asia.
"The Eid al-Fitr holidays have contributed to Soekarno-Hatta Airport becoming the busiest in Southeast Asia. AP II as the airport operator, along with airlines and full support from regulators, were able to meet the high demand during the season," Asmoro said in a statement on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the second and third busiest airports in April 2024 according to OAG were Changi Airport (Singapore) and Suvarnabhumi Airport (Thailand).
Meanwhile, Executive General Manager of Soetta Airport, Dwi Ananda explained that during the Eid al-Fitr holidays, the number of passenger movements at Soetta Airport reached 2.02 million people, up 7 percent compared to the same period in 2023, which was 1.88 million people.
"Soekarno-Hatta Airport operates 24 hours every day and ensures the availability of flight slots for airlines to serve air travel during the Eid al-Fitr Holidays," Ananda explained.
In 2024, OAG also crowned Soetta Airport as the most recovered airport from the impact of the Covid-19 in the Asia-Pacific region, winning the gold medal in the Most Recovered Airport category in the Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) Aviation Network Champions held in March 2024.
