Jakarta – Anthony Ginting is becoming one of the Indonesian contingent that will compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, following Jonatan Christie.
Ginting's success in winning the title at the Singapore Open 2023, followed by his achievement as a finalist at the All England 2024 and achieving the runner-up position, brought him the final ticket for Indonesian men's singles to the upcoming Olympics.
The official BWF rules emphasize that in order to have two representatives in one sector at the Olympics, it's mandatory for the contingent to have at least one representative who is in the top eight during the qualifying period.
Ginting succeeded in fulfilling this requirement by ranking sixth in the qualify rankings for the 2024 Paris Olympics, according to a report published by BadmintonTalk.
According to the report, Ginting also managed to occupy 16th place in the 2024 Race to Paris points collection, which further strengthens his position as one of the powerful candidates in this prestigious event.
The two Indonesian men's singles players, Anthony Ginting and Jonatan Christie, managed to occupy the highest rankings in the qualifications, ensuring their unified presence at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"With the 2023 Singapore Open title and runner-up position at the 2024 All England Open, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting has mathematically guaranteed himself to compete in this year's Olympics," the BadmintonTalk stated.
"His race to Paris points so far ensure that he is in the top 16 and the 2nd highest ranked Indonesian men's singles, thereby securing a place at the Paris Olympics this year," it added.
